New CT Scanner for Dartmouth General Hospital

More than 16,000 Nova Scotians will continue to receive reliable diagnosis and treatment thanks to government approval for a new CT scanner at Dartmouth General Hospital.

“The CT scanner is used every day in the hospital for emergency patients and others with serious illness or injury,” said Randy Delorey, Minister of Health and Wellness. “It’s a key piece of equipment that physicians and other health-care workers rely on to diagnose and treat patients.”

Renovations are underway for Hants Community Hospital’s second operating room

Renovating an unused operating room at the Hants Community Hospital in Windsor will mean 800 more surgeries can be done each year, nearly doubling the annual number of procedures. 

This is part of the QEll Redevelopment Project which will see services transferred from the QEll Health Sciences Centre to support the eventual closure of the Victoria and Centennial buildings at the VG site.

Dartmouth General Hospital Construction Underway

Media had an opportunity to tour the construction of the Dartmouth General Hospital.  The expansion and renovation will result in space for 48 beds on the fifth floor plus eight new operating rooms to replace four existing suites while adding four more. It also includes extensive upgrades to outpatient and diagnostic imaging areas.

The second of three tenders for construction services was also issued today. This tender is for construction of the exterior of the new additions including masonry, structural steel, metal cladding and roofing.

Tender issued for construction of operating room for Hants Community Hospital

Government issued a tender for the construction of a second operating room for the Hants Community Hospital on June 2.

Currently, the Hants Community Hospital has one functional operating room. A second operating room, dating back to when the hospital was originally built in 1976, will be renovated and prepared for use. This will mean 800 more surgeries at the hospital each year, nearly doubling the annual number of procedures.

Renovations at Halifax Infirmary and Hants Community Hospital Moving Forward

Government awarded the contract today, June 2, for project management services for the Hants Community Hospital and the Halifax Infirmary 3, 5 and 6 floors to Colliers Project Leaders.

The planned renovations to the Halifax Infirmary building of the QEII Health Sciences Centre and updates to the operating room at the Hants Community Hospital are part of the QEII redevelopment project.

The project management services required include coordinating and managing the Halifax Infirmary and Hants Community Hospital from design to building to completion.
