New Waterford Community Hub Gets New Artificial Turf

Tuesday December 15, 2020

The New Waterford Community Hub’s new, state-of-the art, artificial turf soccer field is nearly complete.

The New Waterford Community Hub is part of the Cape Breton Regional Municipality (CBRM) Health Care Redevelopment project, announced in 2018.

As the only turf of its kind in Atlantic Canada, it is touted for its durability due to the materials and process used to glue the turf down. In addition to the artificial turf, construction will also include a new natural grass soccer pitch, walking track, tennis courts, ball hockey rink modifications, basketball court and outbuildings.

The New Waterford Community Hub will also consist of a new, modern health centre, a 60-bed long-term care home, and Breton Education Centre school. The health component of the Hub will provide space for physicians and primary health-care teams, X-ray, blood collection, diagnostic imaging, mental health and addictions treatment, public health and many services currently available at New Waterford Consolidated Hospital. The education and community components of the Hub will include education facilities, two gyms, a 500-seat theatre, and space for the community foodbank.

The artificial turf soccer field will be ready for the 2021 soccer season.
